Hi! I am Christiane Laun. I am osteopathic therapist for horses and dogs according to Welter Böller. I almost daily meet patients whose ill-fitting saddles are the cause for their problems.
It is clearly shown by muscles which are sour, spastic, reduced and hurt as an answer to a continuously local pressure.
Tense muscle on one side however results in blockades of cerebral and lumbar vertebrae.

The Result: the back hurts even more and the functions as bending sideways or arching up are limited, the horse becomes stiff and moves on slow motion. The stride is shortened and there is a lack of impulsion. Even head-shaking can be a result of a saddle that doesn’t fit.
Thanks to the saddle pressure device by T& T Medilogig we have established a system with 446 pressure sensors within a stable leather numnah. It allows us to determine measurements lower than 8.0 Newton/cm². Ideally the pressure distribution should be somewhere between 3.0 – 4.0 Newton/cm².
Conventional saddles seldom move along this rate.
The problem here is that horses quickly build up muscles – but lose them just as fast. In case of different training or a longer break, be the feed differently or as the seasons change – the form of the back automatically changes. A conventional saddle is limited when it comes to adjusting to these changes. The density of the padding makes a big difference here, because the muscles have to work against it.
The saddles made by Barefoot work completely different: These treeless saddles are stable on one side, and yet adaptable thanks to the pu-foam-core. Several layers either absorb or distribute pressure and allow an even distribution of the rider’s weight. In combination with the right underlay, an ideal space above the spine as well as a high value of just 3.5 Newton/cm² can be achieved – at all paces.
Within just a few minutes, a tremendous relief is noticeable. The back is free to move and swing, the horses start to relax. Even horses which could be martingale only before can suddenly move long and low and will snort comfortably within a short while. The best though: the saddle is so flexible thanks to carefully chosen materials that it can be used on different horses all the same.
